Think about your spending habits in retirement

Tips to help you get to the living standard you want

You might be able to spend less money on non-essentials than you think.

There are ways to be smart with your money in retirement, to make it go further. Many retailers, restaurants, and service providers offer senior discounts. And, of course, you can get a freedom travel pass.

You can get discounted streaming services, travel deals, and car insurance tailored for retirees. All of these can bring your expenditure down.

Ensure you register for free prescriptions, eye tests, and dental check-ups if eligible.

It's common for spending on non-essentials to reduce in retirement, so think about your whole period of retirement, not just the start when you might be the most active. If you think your spending on hobbies and activities is high, you could spend less by doing activites like walking, gardening and seeing friends and family.

Consider using the tool again to see if you can reduce any of your expected expenditure.
